Since the launch of the Amiga 1000 back in 1985 the Amiga Operating System has continuously improved.
It was built around tightly integrated hardware and software.
The hardware was originally based on proprietary chips running the Motorola 68000 series of processors.
This combination of hardware and software produced a very fast, powerful and easy to use computing platform.
Over 5 million Amiga computers were sold.
Release 3.1 was the first version of the Amiga operating system to be officially dubbed AmigaOS.
It was also the last version developed under Commodore.
Later Amiga licensed development to Haage&Partner and they released with OS 3.5 (1999) and 3.9 (2000) the first Updates after 5 years.
Over 40,000 applications and 5,000 games have been written for devices running AmigaOS. In this case the Amiga is still one of the biggest computer platforms in the world.
